Peter
Bolte is a Brooklyn, New York based artist and filmmaker. He received
his BFA in painting from Webster University in 2000. He then obtained
a post-baccalaureate in fine art from Maryland Institute College
of Art. While there, his work expanded from painting to film beginning
with his first avant-garde short, Consuming Capitalism.
Since
this time, he has written and directed several short subject films
including The Greims – 2009 (Wes Bentley, Francesco Saviano,
Richard Edson), Veneer – 2008 (Michael Buscemi, Francesco
Saviano) and V.O. – 2005 (Sean Gullette, Jake Robards)
Along
with his film-works, he has directed two award-winning music videos
and has directed spots for the American Red Cross and Nokia. His
side projects also include co-editing the provocative documentary
Begging Naked (dir. Karen Gehres), which won best editing at VisionFest
2008.
Peter
has exhibited his paintings and films internationally at numerous
venues including the Vancouver International Film Festival, St.
Louis International Film Festival, Little Rock Film Festival, Woodstock
Film Festival, Nantucket Film Festival, Anthology Film Archives,
Issue Project Room, Galapagos Art Space, HereArt, Festival Electrochoc,
Barbès Performance Space and Maryland Institute College of
Art.
His
new short film The Greims is currently on the festival circuit and
he is slated to premiere a short documentary titled Dr. Sketchy’s
Anti-Art School. Also, his feature length film debut Dandelion Man,
is scheduled to be released on DVD in July of 2010.
Currently
he is the cinematographer on Casting By (dir. Tom Donahue), a documentary
on the history of the casting director centered around the legendary
Marion Dougherty. He is also in-development on his second feature
length narrative titled Anathema.
